Hearing aids are designed to help people with hearing loss enjoy the rich world of sound, reproducing natural sounds as clearly as possible, and to hear well and therefore feel comfortable not only in quiet but also in noisy environments. Hearing aids are individually selected on the basis of a number of criteria, the main ones being audiological and physiological.

How do I get a hearing aid?

  1. Contact your family doctor. He or she will give you a referral to an otorhinolaryngologist (ENT).
  2. See an ENT doctor. He or she will assess your health and determine whether you can get a hearing aid for free. If the answer is yes, you will receive documents to prove it – Form 027/a and a hearing audiogram.
  3. Visit your nearest Optics World hearing centre within 30 days and we will help you choose the right hearing aid for you.

Don’t forget to take the documents given by the ENT doctor with you.

ENT doctor – who to see?

Usually, your GP will answer any questions you may have about how to proceed during your initial consultation. However, if you are planning to see the ENT doctor in person, you are informed that:

  • If you are applying for a hearing aid for the first time – contact an ENT doctor working in a tertiary care institution (e.g. Kaunas Clinic);
  • Applying for a hearing aid for the second time and more– contact the ENT doctor at the secondary care centre.

Which is better – one or two hearing aids?

Studies show that fitting two hearing aids improves sound localisation, sound amplification and speech perception in noisy environments. Wearing two hearing aids also reduces murmurs, improves balance function and facilitates adaptation, allowing the patient to return to “normal” life more quickly and easily.
