Bifocal spectacle lenses are lenses that have two areas of vision: the upper part is for distance vision and the lower part for reading. Since there are only two zones in the lens, distance and near, the wearer cannot tolerate a view at a distance of 1-3 m. Before purchasing these lenses, it is advisable to be aware that there will be a sudden jump in dioptres when looking from top to bottom and vice versa.
You can buy both plastic and mineral (glass) bifocal spectacle lenses. Additional and lens-enhancing coatings to protect the lenses from scratching are available. The lenses can be clear, photochromic or coloured.
