How is the eye screening done?

The duration of a vision screening at an optical salon varies. It depends on your needs:

  • Choosing glasses/contact lenses;
  • Selection of glasses/contact lenses with a medical consultation, which includes dilating the pupils of the eyes, checking the bottom of the eyes, measuring the intraocular pressure and other medical advice related to eye diseases. Not all of our salons offer these services, so you will be asked about the purpose of your visit when you register.

During the vision screening, the eye care professional will ask you about the factors that cause eye fatigue, which can affect the quality of comfortable vision. This information also helps to select the most appropriate glasses and/or contact lenses.

Vision screening for adults

  • Customer data is stored at the opticians where the vision screening takes place. This is convenient as changes in vision can be monitored/tracked.
  • The test determines visual acuity, which is rated at 1.0 / 0.8 / 0.7 / 0.6 etc.
  • An autorefractometer tests the optical power of the eye. The results are used to determine farsightedness, myopia and astigmatism. Corneal corneal opacity is determined for the selection of contact lenses.
  • The distance between the pupils – Pd – is adjusted using a special device . The Pd distance for distance glasses is different from that for reading glasses.
  • After the autorefractometer readings have been evaluated, test spectacle lenses are placed in the vision correction frame to determine the vision correction. Additional eye tests are used during the verification to select the most appropriate vision correction.
  • The general condition of the eyes is examined with a slit-lamp microscope. The examination includes an examination of the eyelids and cornea. The microscope is also used to assess the position of the contact lens in the eye.

Vision screening for children

  • Our team includes professional eye doctors who perform vision tests for children. When you register for your check-up, be sure to mention that you need a paediatrician and the optician will give you the times the paediatrician is available.
  • In children, dilating the pupils of the eyes removes fatigue/tension and helps to select the right vision correction.
  • An eye health certificate is available on request.

After the vision correction is complete, the eye care professional will:

  • will record all the data in the client’s history card, indicating the strength of vision;
  • recommend the most suitable type of glasses or contact lenses;
  • Advice on eye exercises and comfortable vision;
  • mark the centres of your pupils on the chosen frames, if this is required by the type of spectacle lenses.

PLEASE BRING THE FOLLOWING WITH YOU WHEN YOU ARRIVE FOR SCREENING:

  • Bring all the glasses you currently wear, however many you have.
  • Details of your last sight test – prescription.
  • If you wear contact lenses, it is recommended that you wear glasses for the check-up. This will help to make the vision screening more objective.
